Yes, I’m Still Here

by Nikki on June 17, 2011

I suck at keeping up with this blog lately. I’ve been putting all my effort into Pretty Opinionated and keeping up with my freelance writing gigs that Pretty Nameless sort of fell to the side. The good news is, Jake survived Kindergarten and this year is officially over! As hard as it is to get into a routine with him home all day, I am so happy that I never have to worry about the phone ringing and hearing his principal  on the other line telling me how horribly my child is behaving.  I did find out that he’s not even close to the only one who acted up this year, apparently half the kids in his class were just as “bad.” And by bad, I mean they were acting like kids. EGAD! Kids being kids? Holy crap! How dare they?

But it’s over, and I’m trying to let go of all my anger towards them. Remember when Jake got lunch detention for a week for knocking the milk out of a little girl’s hand because she was being nasty to him? Well, a little girl did THE EXACT SAME THING and didn’t even get scolded. In fact, the little boy was told to stop teasing her. I told Jake next time that happened, to march into the principals office and demand an end to this double standard. But it’s over. It’s over. Hooray!

Of course, now that the boy child is out of school, we’re having a super hard time trying to set a decent schedule and stick to it. I keep telling Jake that if he wants to do anything fun, I need to be able to make money. Camel Beach costs a fortune, and even just going to the local pool costs money. I explained to him that I need to be able to write articles, and for that, I need him to stop interrupting me every five seconds. He’s working on it. We have a chart up with a schedule of when I work and when I play with him. He ignores the chart completely, but it’s only been a few days, so hopefully it’ll start to work.

Jake’s birthday party was a success. He only had about six friends show up, but I’ve discovered that children will multiply their energy output to equal approximately triple their volume, so it was really like having 18 kids there. On his actual birthday, we had a party with just us and the dogs. It was a little more quiet. Maia even let us put a party hat on her!  Anyway, that’s about it from me right now. I’m going to try to be more consistent. I know I always say that, and I go a month where I post every day, then a month where I vanish, but I’m working on it! I reached my 100th follower on this blog, which is pretty awesome! Thank you to all 100 of you who still stop in and see me when I bother to show up! I appreciate you!

Glad to see you back! And congratulations on being done with the school year and having a successful birthday party. After our last friend party, I was exhausted. :)
